Kevin De Bruyne cemented his legacy as one of the best midfielders in Premier League history, and his abilities are reflected in his FIFA 23 rating. The Belgian maestro is ranked 91 overall in the game to come and shares first place with four other footballers.
With FIFA 23 less than two weeks away from the global release, EA Sports has unveiled a list made up of the game’s best passers, with De Bruyne leading the pack. The Manchester City star has a passing stat of 93, making him the title’s best playmaker.
However, a player’s real-life abilities and overall FIFA rating don’t always translate to their performance on the digital pitch, and fans will wonder if De Bruyne will be a viable option in the next game.
Kevin De Bruyne’s consistent performance earned him top spot in FIFA 23
Kevin De Bruyne is undoubtedly one of the elite of European football, his contributions to the game leading Manchester City to numerous titles and honours. The player’s undisputed genius on the pitch has been applauded by fans around the world. With the inclusion of Erling Haaland in the squad roster, he will inevitably try to increase his league assist count.
De Bruyne has always been one of the best midfielders in FIFA. Although he was originally a CAM (central attacking midfielder) in previous episodes, players preferred the Belgian in a more box-to-box role due to his lack of pace.
In FIFA 23, Kevin De Bruyne starts as a CM (central midfielder). This is ideal for his card, as he received pace and defensive ratings of 74 and 64, respectively. This means that his abilities will be best utilized in the center of the park as an all-around midfielder and not as a dedicated striker or defensive-focused midfielder.
With a disappointing pace and heavy body type in the game, along with low agility and balance stats, De Bruyne won’t be suited to the role of a pure striker in FIFA. He will still be a viable CAM in formations where he has nimble forwards to back him up, like 4231 and 4312. But that will severely limit players in their approach as they will have to adapt it to their playstyle.
The City footballer will perform at his best when used as a box-to-box midfielder in formations such as 4312, 442 and variations of 433. This will allow players to make the most of superb De Bruyne’s shooting and passing stats unaffected by his average pace and clumsy dribbling.
While his special versions have been some of the most powerful cards in FIFA history, Kevin De Bruyne’s base version often comes up short in the title. This indicates that a simple boost to some key stats can turn his card into an extremely useful midfield machine.
However, with Hypermotion 2.0, FIFA 23 could be the most realistic football simulation experience in franchise history. With improved animation and gameplay mechanics, players like De Bruyne should be much more usable than in the arcade-style gameplay seen in previous titles.
