Even though Brawl Stars doesn’t have a major esports scene in India, that hasn’t stopped two Indian players from going professional. Thanks to their performance in the game, they have managed to catch the attention of the famous esports organization, Stalwart Esports, and are now preparing for the Brawl Stars 2022 World Finals which is expected to start in a few weeks.
Shashank “Instinct” Jain is one of two Indian players featured in Stalwart Esports’ Brawl Stars roster. In a chat with Sportskeeda Esports’ Debolina Banerjee, Instinct explained why he chose gaming as his profession, his current roster, and more.
Instinct on why he chose Brawl Stars and Stalwart Esports
Q. Venture into professional gaming is considered an unconventional choice. What made you choose video games as a career?
Instinct: I have played games like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed on my computer and also games like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, PUBG Mobile, BGMI etc. on my mobile device. However, I have always regretted having started these games very late in relation to their release date. On the contrary, I started playing Brawl Stars when it was released worldwide and I enjoyed it a lot and found it fun to play with my friends, who are now my teammates. The pleasure and the determination to prove my time invested in the game in order to achieve a result to win something big made me choose the game as my career.
Q. Indian parents are generally reluctant to allow their children to pursue this profession. Did you struggle to convince your parents or were they supportive from day one?
Instinct: My parents were supportive of my playing career on the condition that my studies weren’t affected in the least. I’m at a point where I finished my B. Tech degree with decent results and I’m doing pretty well in my playing career. Therefore, my parents were very supportive.
Q. Why do you think Brawl Stars is not as popular as battle royale mobile games like BGMI and Free Fire? What can you do to improve your esports scenario in India?
Instinct: Since Brawl Stars was released after BGMI and Free Fire, the number of people playing other games simply exceeds those playing Brawl Stars.
A few solutions I can think of to improve the esports scenario of the Supercell game in India is to first organize more tournaments so that people see that it is worth grinding the game. In order for this game to become more popular, some big streamers have to play it from time to time so that a wider audience can see how much fun it is to play Brawl Stars.
Q. You always had a podium when it came to playing the game professionally. How long have you been playing the game? What are your favorite characters?
Instinct: I’ve been playing Brawl Stars for three years.
My favorite characters are Bibi and Max.
Q. You’ve been playing with Sergeant since your FA Tryhards and Brainy Flagship days. How long have you been playing together? Who is your best synergy with on your current roster?
Instinct: We have been playing together for two years now.
Without a doubt, my synergy is best with Sergeant on my current roster.
Q. What made you choose Stalwart Esports over other esports organizations? How is it different from other organizations?
Instinct: First of all, I have heard about Stalwart Esports for a long time as they are known to be the best team in the world in PUBG Mobile.
The difference with Stalwart Esports and other organizations is that they seek longer commitments from players rather than just looking for profit. This is what made me choose Stalwart Esports.
Q. Now that you’ve won the last two tournaments as part of the Stalwart Esports roster, what are you aiming for next?
Instinct: It’s simple. Our goal is to win the monthly SESA and ANZ Finals, put on a good show and get as far as possible in the Global Finals, which is our main goal.
Q. Which Brawl Stars team do you think is the strongest in the world right now? Why do you think that?
Instinct: The ZETA Division is definitely the strongest team in the world right now.
They are the strongest because not only are they individually brilliant, but their teamwork is also amazing.
Q. Since Stalwart Esports qualified for the Brawl Stars 2022 World Finals, how has the team started to prepare?
Instinct: Since qualifying for the Brawl Stars 2022 World Finals, our team has been working four to five hours a day and a few extra hours to analyze what works and what doesn’t. Everyone is really motivated to perform and try to give around eight hours a day to each other to be a better team than yesterday.
Q. What is your message to the supporters who have supported you so far?
Instinct: Honestly the support my/our supporters have given us is heartwarming and I will just say that without all of this none of us would be where we are. Also, look forward to our games in the World Finals!
